FEATURED ARTIST FRIDAY: Zenas White

Enigma doesn’t quite cut it, but this offbeat mop of hair and obsession with hunting sounds from the bohemian fringes of house and techno will certainly kickstart your body’s rhythm. Rivaled by stories of his travels to the far-flung reaches of the world, partying with the infamous Conspiracy Crew downunder, playing airplane hangars in Mexico City and curating pop up dust shenanigans in Black Rock City.

What do these ramblings actually mean?

Simple: strap yourself in, because this Chicago native is guaranteed to deliver an ethereal dance floor experience.

What genre would you describe yourself as? Why?

Playa Tech and Deep House – I really connect with this style of music and the love for it only strengthens as time progresses.

Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.

As of 2019, I’ve been focusing on the build and construction over at The GoodSpace. I’m VERY excited about that. It’s a dream come true to be involved in such a creative space with your best mates.

What artists influence you/do you look up to?

Lately, I’ve been heavily influenced by heaps of local talent that Chicago is packed with. Some examples are My Boy Elroy, Aathee, and Jason Patrick. They really grab a dance floor with the right balance of unheard tunes and original tracks.

What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)

My proudest moment thus far is playing in Mexico City — Terraza Regina .

AMAZING sound, full dance floor and Funktion Ones 🙂

What DAW do you use?

Ableton live

What are some of your favorite plug-ins?

Shiiiiiit — all UAD plugins, Omnisphere, SubBoom Bass. I keep it pretty simple. I love diving into new VSTs, printing the sounds I like, and manipulating them post-fx.

What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?

I’m a slave to the Juul. I can’t leave the crib without it… but at least I’m not chugging so many cigarettes!

Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body.  What are some of your self care practices?

I love practicing a ritualistic meal prep so I can focus on other tasks at hand. I like to stay well fed. If I need a bit of self care, I start with the fuel that I eat.

If you had to do something else (outside of music), what would it be?

Study plants and garden until I couldn’t anymore.

Why are you excited to be a part of Serenity Base Fest?

I’m looking forward to connecting like minded minds to a different pulse of music. I’m also looking forward to participating in any workshops focusing on the body and wellness.

What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?

Bon Apetit on YouTube

When’s the last time you’ve gone out of your way to help someone?

Helping people has imbedded into my healthy habits. The last time was earlier today at Whole Foods, I assisted a grocery shopper take a bag of dog food out of their cart. Dogs have to eat too!!

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you while DJing?

I’ve played music for a handful of naked people in the middle of the desert once.. or twice.

Do you practice yoga or meditation?

I don’t practice yoga religiously anymore but I meditate frequently.

What was your favorite show that you’ve played?

I’d have to say my 2018 G Spot set at Burning Man was my favourite set to date.

What is a quote or phrase that you try to live by? Why?

Be Here Now.
