After a breakout 2018, 24-year-old Westend solidified his spot as a must-watch artist in the US tech-house scene. The New York City native developed a passion for electronic music and production at a young age while attending Robert Moog’s alma mater. Westend has since refined his craft and sound, making a name for himself in the American house scene. Westend’s work can be found at the intersection of aggressive low frequencies, quirky vocals, and crisp production. He has had chart topping releases on Dirtybird, Club Sweat, Box of Cats, Audiophile XXL and IN/ ROTATION. Along with Westend’s originals, he has worked on remixes for some of todays biggest artists including Alessia Cara, Lauv & Troye Sivan, Louis the Child and Felix Cartal. Its common to hear the major players rinsing Westend’s tracks including Claude Von Stroke, Diplo, Justin Martin, Shiba San, Walker & Royce and many more!
Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.
Working on lots of new original music and some exciting collaborations. I have a record with this super dope Australian artist named Benson that i’m really looking forward to sharing.
What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)
Proudest moment of this year was when I was asked to play at my all time favorite festival. It was a very full circle moment for me.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what album would you have with you?
Kidz Bop 13
Have you DJ’d a boat party before?
Yes in New York with the Rvdiovctive crew! I love being on the water so boats are always a great time for me!
What DAW do you use?
What are some of your favorite plug-ins?
Massive, Bassizm, Soundtoys Suite
What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?
Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body. What are some of your self care practices?
I try to meditate every day. Your mind is the essence of everything you experience and so it’s silly not to spend time training it. I also try exercise as much as I can when I get back from being on the road. Basketball and Muay Thai are my go-tos.
If you had to do something else (outside of music), what would it be?
If I wasn’t producing and DJing I would probably still be involved in the music industry. Most likely something involving music technology as I worked at a software company prior to producing full time.
Have you been to Chicago before? If so, what’s your go to food here?
Been a couple times. The chocolate shake cake from Portillos is super extra but also incredible.
What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?
It’s Game of Thrones season right now so that is all that is on my mind.
What about playing Deep Down Under are you excited about?
I’m excited to see Chicago from the water!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
My next single will be out at the end of May on Dim Mak and be on the lookout for a free download of my Party Time VIP. Also check my FB page for an up to date list of where I am playing over the next few weeks!
I just released my latest original with Chicago native John Summit on Dirtybird. The track is titled “Detonate” and is a certified dancefloor bomb.
Check out the new track HERE!
