TECHNODOG (BULAT KALIMULLIN) was born and originated from Russia. He started working on music production 5 years ago and formed his style of Techno and deep house underground. Six years ago, he lived in New York where he had numerous gigs …then he moved to Chicago, where he met Richie Hawtin and gave him his promo track “Rotation ”. ” I like this shit , you have to work more”. That has been his motivation ever since. He now lives in Chicago and spends most of his time in the studio where he works to produce his first album. Bulat’s steady presence in techno over the years has helped establish him as a credible, reliable voice on underground dancefloors around the world. He’s garnered support from some of the most revered names in the genre, both for his productions and DJ sets. As a true workaholic, Technodog has been living and breathing, playing and producing underground edm music for all of his adult life. As with his productions, Technodog strength as a DJ is his versatility. Depending on the night and the crowd, he can throw down melodic techno, heavy jacking and industrial sounds, deep house, disco, and often a combination of these. Technodog live set expresses the rawness and honesty of his productions. Expect soulful melodies and squelching acid basslines intertwining with rough-hewn beats & jacking rhythms.

What genre would you describe yourself as? Why?

Deep house, techno, minimal. Harmonic tempo of these genres fills me up with positive energy; and I would like to share it with others, so they can experience it as well.

Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.

Right now I’m working on my new soundtrack, and I hopefully, will be able to release my first album in the near future. I am extremely grateful that I have an opportunity to participate in SBF (Serenity Base Festival). To me, it is a very useful and valuable experience.

What artists influence you/do you look up to?

Ali Shirazinia (Dubfire), Richie Hawtin, Mladen Solomun

What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)

I am looking forward to new bright moments that are expected to happen to me soon and be truly proud.

What DAW do you use?

Albeton live

What are some of your favorite plug-ins?

Reaktor 6 Native Instruments, Serum

What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?

If I have keys, phone, passport and funds, nothing can prevent me from going anywhere I want to go at any chosen time.

Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body.  What are some of your self care practices?

Since I am originally from Russia, I like Russian style sauna, called banya. My body always feel rejuvenated and well rested after banya.

If you had to do something else (outside of music), what would it be?

I have always been fascinated by molecular gastronomy. The perfect example of it is “Aline’s” restaurant owned by Grant Achatz. I find it extremely interesting and would like to learn more about that culinary approach.

What was your favorite show that you’ve played?

Eyes Wide Shut by Soulmade. It’s when I was introduced to the audience of Chicago for the very first time, after coming from Miami. That party made me realize that this city offers a lot of potential for development in the genre of underground music.

What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?

I like the show called “Black Mirror”. It features what can potentially happen to us if we invest too much attention to technology. It is better to listen to music while enjoying what is happening around us. In real life you can find something new and interesting everyday.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what album would you have with you?

Air “Safari Moon”

Why are you excited to be a part of Serenity Base Fest?

Participating in music festivals of such high level is something I have never experienced before. I am sure it will make a positive impact on my creative profession. I am glad to be a part of this event where I can be among people that appreciate music as much as I do.

What is something that makes you stand out as an artist?

In my music, I use a sound and rhythm that sort of create hypnotic waves. It is a feeling that could be described when you and music are connected.

What is a quote or phrase that you try to live by? Why?

“Screw it, let’s do it” , because the biggest obstacles are in your head.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Music is the answer to your problems. Keep moving, then you can solve them.
