What genre would you describe yourself as? Why?
I’m definitely tech house because not only do I dabble in techno, but I also love house music.
Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.
I’m starting to tour more! In the next few weeks I’ll be travelling to Toronto, Detroit, Phoenix, and more! I absolutely love Chicago but it’s exciting to be able to play my music out to new audiences.
What artists influence you/do you look up to?
Green Velvet, Gene Farris, Lee Foss. All three are immensely talented, hardworking, successful, and are from Chicago!
What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)
Probably when I signed a record with Toolroom last year because that’s when I realized that I really could have a future in this… I made that track with my Brazilian bud MKJAY and our new track together is out this Friday on Repopulate Mars (another dream label of mine)!
What DAW do you use?
Ableton, it was the first DAW I downloaded and I have been in love with it ever since.
What are some of your favorite plug-ins?
Basically all the Soundtoys plug-ins, especially Crystallizer, Decapitator, and Echoboy. I also use Fabfilter Saturn for distortion, Ozone Imager for stereo width, and Valhalla Vintage for reverb. All ableton stock plug-ins too (I use operator for lots of my basslines).
What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?
My USB! I’m guessing every DJ you’ve ever interviewed has answered in a similar way haha.
Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body. What are some of your self care practices?
I try to work out in the gym everyday and eat as clean as possible. If I party especially hard I just take the day off to rest and relax and then get back at it the next day!
If you had to do something else (outside of music), what would it be?
I’d probably be an astronaut, definitely not an accountant.
What was your favorite show that you’ve played?
I can only think of recently and I played a show out in San Diego a couple months back with the Hood Politics record label team and it was an absolute blast. I’m bringing them out to Spybar in July to give them a record label showcase and introduce them to the Chicago market. Can’t wait!
What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?
I heard this show called Game of Thrones is neat..
If you were stranded on a desert island, what album would you have with you?
“Jamie XX – In Colour” because I’ve listened to it countless times and still love it all the way through.
What is something that makes you stand out as an artist?
My productions to be honest. I’m really proud of the work I’ve been putting out lately and the support I’ve been getting across the community on these tracks.
What is a quote or phrase that you try to live by? Why?
“There is no substitute for hardwork”. I don’t know if I’m the most talented person alive, but I try my best to work as hard as I possibly can to fully explore what’s possible.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
My new tracks on Dirtybird and Repopulate Mars are out today! Both are two of my favorite tracks I’ve ever made and I can’t wait to play them out during my upcoming gigs!
