Adam Frek comes out of the house music community of Chicago. He plays variations of House and Techno, primarily, and is always looking for that perfect groove that keeps everyone dancing. He began to really pursue DJing a relatively short time ago out of the desire to share great music with friends. Always wanting to enhance the time of those people around him, playing the right music was the perfect outlet for this. As he begins to establish himself in his local Chicago music scene, he has been sought out outside of Chicago. In 2018, he played Electric Forest for the first time, turning the opportunity to play one set into a total of three inside the forest. Besides his hometown, he has played events in Miami, Las Vegas, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Mexico, Koh Phagnan, and Ibiza. 2019 has started off with Adam playing on Groove Cruise Miami and Miami Music Week.
What genre would you describe yourself as? Why?
I play a range of music in house and techno. Lately I’ve really been drawn to music in Deep Tech.
Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.
I am really excited about my growth in production. Ultimately that is a big part of where I want to go on this journey.
What artists influence you/do you look up to?
I am influenced by all music. Who I’m drawn to is always changing. Right now, I love everything Luciano, The Martinez Brothers, Loco Dice, and Guti are doing.
What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)
Wow, that is difficult to answer because I’ve been so blown away by recent opportunities that have unfolded. I don’t really set out big goals for myself, as I really want to focus on playing quality music and providing part of the soundtrack to a great time for everyone.
What DAW do you use?
What are some of your favorite plug-ins?
Decapitator and Echobooy from soundtoys.
What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?
USB. You never know when a music emergency might happen…
Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body. What are some of your self care practices?
If you had to do something else (outside of music), what would it be?
Urban Planner. Mine as well do something with that masters degree I got….
Why are you excited to be a part of Serenity Base Fest?
In general, I’m excited to be with so many positive vibes. Specifically, I’m most excited for the amount of talent that will be on display at SBF.
What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?
When’s the last time you’ve gone out of your way to help someone?
I hope to help friends and those I care about any chance I get. I guess passing up a gig at Spybar last Friday so I could deliver something to a customer.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I can’t wait to put together some really special stuff for Serenity Base Fest!
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you while DJing?
A woman came up to the decks, leaned on them, and collapsed the table spilling the gear all of the floor and obviously stopping the music.
Do you practice mindfulness?
Try to understand my own feelings first. Then true empathy for others comes naturally.
What was your favorite show that you’ve played?
I think my best set I have played yet was my first set at MMW (Miami Music Week) this year.
What is a quote or phrase that you try to live by? Why?
